Ambiente 2020 impacted by coronavirus and Ciara
Trends, new products and international business – these are traditionally at the focus of Ambiente in Frankfurt, which took place from 7 to 11 February 2020. The world’s largest consumer goods trade fair had grown to 4,635 exhibitors  from 93 countries , covering 310,240 gross sqm . Ambiente was the first leading trade fair to be affected by the impact of the coronavirus on travelling. Another clearly noticeable factor was Storm Ciara. Business in the halls, however, did not suffer as much as expected, and, in all, large numbers of orders were placed throughout the trends and new products platform. Nevertheless, exhibitors were disappointed with the strong sense of uncertainty among visitors and therefore the absence of quite a few retail channels. Yet those who did travel to Frankfurt benefited from an outstanding ordering environment.
New Hall 5 construction project begins
Demolition of Hall 5 has now begun on the exhibition grounds. The removal of the exhibition hall, which was constructed from 1971 to 1972 on the basis of a design by the architect Martin Schoenmaker, should be completed by the end of March 2020. Construction of the new exhibition hall, designed by Frankfurt architectural office Gruber + Kleine-Kraneburg, should commence in April 2020, and the building is expected to enter operation in 2023.
Christmasworld, Creativeworld & Paperworld: Frankfurt trade fair trio makes for an optimistic outlook
The Frankfurt consumer goods fairs Christmasworld, Paperworld, and Creativeworld have started the new business season with relevant industry topics. 3,051 exhibitors from 74 countries presented their new products for decoration, festive décor, paper, office supplies, and stationery, as well as hobby, crafts and artists' requisites to the national and international trade.
Nextrade: international rollout at Ambiente 2020
The digital marketplace Nextrade keeps growing. At the forthcoming Ambiente, the platform already has a three-digit number of suppliers, each with its entire product range. With a content-driven programme, the 50th edition of Heimtextil delivered strong impetus for the start of the new furnishing season. Sustainability was placed firmly at top of the agenda, outshining all other topics. 63,000 visitors gathered information about the major themes dominating the international industry from 2,952 exhibitors at the world's leading trade fair for home and contract textiles. As expected, the unusually early date led to a drop in visitor numbers.*
Michael Biwer is the new Vice President of Guest Events
Michael Biwer (39) has been at the helm of the Guest Events division at Messe Frankfurt Venue GmbH since January 2020. In this function, he is responsible for some 280 guest fairs, congresses, conferences, concerts and other events every year. Biwer reports to Uwe Behm, Member of the Executive Board of Messe Frankfurt GmbH.
Messe Frankfurt generates €733 million in sales
Messe Frankfurt has continued its profitable growth course in financial year 2019, its key performance indicators remaining at a consistently high level. The company is expecting sales to be in the region of €733 million. Approximately 99,000 exhibitors and almost five million visitors attended the 400-plus events held under the Messe Frankfurt umbrella during the year. The construction of the new Hall 5 and the development of a hotel and office high-rise building and new South Entrance are set to further cement the status of the Frankfurt exhibition grounds as one of the most state-of-the-art inner-city exhibition venues anywhere in the world.
Intelligently networked mobility: Hypermotion strengthens key partnerships
Frankfurt has established itself as a meeting place for the pioneers of future mobility and logistics. From 26 to 28 November 2019, technology drivers and experts met to find new solutions in the fields of traffic, transport, infrastructure and logistics. This year marked the first time that the German Mobility Congress (DMK) and the STUVA Conference, an event devoted to the tunnel industry, were also able to welcome their guests to the Frankfurt exhibition grounds. Around 3,000 participants networked with the goal of advancing the mobility transition.

Messe Frankfurt returns to second China International Import Expo

Messe Frankfurt acquires license to organise Busworld in India, further strengthening its mobility segment
Messe Frankfurt Trade Fairs India Pvt Ltd, the Indian subsidiary of the Group, has acquired the license to organise Busworld - the world’s leading B2B exhibition for the bus and coach sector from Busworld International CVBA. The agreement strengthens Messe Frankfurt’s position as the leading exhibition organiser for the mobility segment. Busworld India 2020, the 9th edition in the series, will be organised in Bengaluru.

Tendence 2019: Summer heat and cool trends
Clearly structured by trading forms, lifestyles and target groups, Tendence 2019 focused even more closely on the needs of customers. For three days, 603 exhibitors presented their fashionable lifestyle and trend products. Messe Frankfurt continues to grow
Messe Frankfurt’s growth continued in the past financial year too. Speaking at the Corporate Press Conference earlier today, Wolfgang Marzin, President and Chief Executive Officer of Messe Frankfurt, announced: “We succeeded in setting a new record of around €718 million in sales”.
Philipp Ferger appointed Managing Director of nmedia GmbH
Messe Frankfurt has acquired a stake in nmedia GmbH, the European market leader in the field of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), with which it is setting up the Group’s “Nextrade” digital B2B marketplace. Philipp Ferger has been appointed second Managing Director of nmedia GmbH effective 1 June 2019 and will share management responsibilities with Nicolaus Gedat.

Musikmesse and Prolight + Sound 2019: international, professional and innovative with a host of event highlights
A week full of music, entertainment, business and inspiration ended on Saturday evening with a concert given by Gregory Porter and the Neue Philharmonie Frankfurt orchestra in the ‘Festhalle’. At Musikmesse and Prolight + Sound, artisanry met high-tech, violins met virtual reality and digital networking met personal encounters. The accompanying Musikmesse Festival not only presented highlight concerts by Samy Deluxe, Mousse T. & Glasperlenspiel, Tony Carey and other stars at the Exhibition Centre but also filled around 50 clubs and hotels in Frankfurt with music. At the new Musikmesse Plaza, music fans came into their own after the trade fairs with a pop-up market including direct sales and numerous events on Saturday.
Change in management at Messe Frankfurt USA and South Africa
Effective 1 April 2019, Konstantin von Vieregge, Managing Director of Messe Frankfurt South Africa, will be moving to Atlanta to assume the position of President at Messe Frankfurt Inc. He will be succeeded by Joshua Low, who has already been Group Exhibition Director at Messe Frankfurt South Africa since June 2017.

Messe Frankfurt is renovating Hall 6
By the time the Frankfurt Book Fair opens its doors on 16 October 2019, featuring Norway as this year’s partner country, the technical revitalisation of Hall 6 will have come to an end. Designed by architect Martin Schoenmakers and brought into operation in time for the 1963 Spring Fair, the exterior and interior of Hall 6 – which is somewhat larger than its sister building Hall 5 – will look like new again.
Simon Mellor to take over as Managing Director of Messe Frankfurt Middle East
As of March, Simon Mellor will be the new Managing Director of Messe Frankfurt Middle East, Messe Frankfurt’s subsidiary in Dubai. He will be taking over from Ahmed Pauwels, who has decided to leave the company for personal reasons.
Messe Frankfurt to switch over entirely to renewable energy
As of event year 2020, Messe Frankfurt will be changing over completely to green power, sourcing 100 percent of its electricity from renewable energy. This includes the power supply for the stands, halls and exhibition grounds at the company’s Frankfurt base. For Messe Frankfurt, the world’s largest trade fair organiser with its own exhibition grounds, the move away from conventional energy sources is a further milestone in implementing its long-term strategic measures in the field of sustainability. This means that Messe Frankfurt is setting the pace for German trade fair companies in this regard as well. The company’s cooperation partner is Frankfurt-based energy service provider Mainova AG.

Heimtextil 2019: Continued growth with new concept
For the ninth time in a row, Heimtextil in Frankfurt am Main (8-11 January 2019) will see an increase in the number of exhibitors. ‘Despite the economic downturn, Heimtextil is continuing its extremely positive development. Messe Frankfurt sets new record of €715 million in sales
Messe Frankfurt has continued its growth in financial year 2018. All in all, new records were set in relevant parameters, demonstrating the highly dynamic and innovation-led activities of the Group. Messe Frankfurt is expecting sales to be in the region of €715 million. The 490-plus events held around the world under the Messe Frankfurt umbrella were attended by almost 102,000 exhibitors and an estimated 4.5 million visitors.
Mission accomplished: Modes of transport and communities establish new networks at Hypermotion 2018
2,545 participants from 20 countries (2017: 2,673 from 18 countries), including 138 companies, 36 start-ups and over 200 speakers, established new networks during the three days of Hypermotion. The focus was on disruptive ideas and the intelligent networking of traffic and logistics systems, as well as the future of mobility. The interactive format featuring a broad array of conferences, start-up pitches, expert talks and speed networking was a huge hit with participants, with 91 percent saying they were very satisfied with the event.

Hall 12 officially opened
The new Hall 12 was officially opened today at a ceremony attended by some 2,000 invited guests from the realms of politics, business and media on the Frankfurt exhibition grounds. The building was constructed over a two-year period and is the cornerstone of the open area development in the western section of the Messe Frankfurt exhibition grounds.

Mission accomplished: Cleanzone 2018 draws more international visitors to Frankfurt
With over 38 percent of its visitors coming from outside Germany, Cleanzone demonstrated once again this year that it is Europe’s platform for cleanroom technology (2017: 35 percent). The number of participants also increased compared to the previous event, with nearly 1,300 cleanroom technology experts from 39 countries discussing the latest innovations and trends over two days in Frankfurt.* The trade fair for cleanroom technology had even more on offer this year with over 30 percent more exhibition space than in 2017.
Interactive site plan receives warm welcome
Messe Frankfurt launched its optimised interactive site plan (iGP) for Automechanika in September 2018. A usability test among the visitors of the trade fair resulted in positive feedback and confirmed the plan's real added value. iGP helps users navigate through the events on Messe Frankfurt websites. At the same time, exhibitors benefit from the new opportunity to present themselves in the best possible context. Additional features ensure a comprehensive and user-oriented trade fair experience.
Messe Frankfurt expands in India with new strategic alliances
In a further bid to expand its footprint, Messe Frankfurt Trade Fairs India Pvt Ltd, the German group’s Indian subsidiary, announced that it has entered into a strategic alliance with Gifts & Accessories, the Exhibition Division of Netlink Solutions (India) Ltd, a public limited corporation listed with Bombay Stock Exchange for the Stationery & Write Show, Corporate Gifts Show and Houseware & Kitchenware Show. Messe Frankfurt Trade Fairs India Pvt Ltd marking its 20th anniversary in India this year, now holds 22 trade fairs and 35 conferences in its portfolio.
3 October 1948 – the starting point on the road to becoming a global player
Trade fairs have been held in Frankfurt for the last 800 years or so. The roots of the modern-day Messe Frankfurt can be found in the Export Fair that was held in Frankfurt in 1948. This event, which will have taken place 70 years ago on 3 October of this year, was also a pioneering force behind the company’s sustainable international development. From an economic and psychological perspective, the effects of this autumn trade fair – the first to be held after the Second World War – were enormous when it came to stimulating German foreign trade and reconstructing and expanding the exhibition grounds. History of Messe Frankfurt on stage
At the festival from 28 to 30 September celebrating the official opening of the reconstructed Altstadt – Frankfurt’s old town – Messe Frankfurt will be contributing to proceedings in the form of a new theatre play, to be performed by independent theatre group “Dramatische Bühne”. Successful start for the dialogue between the elevator & escalator industry and the building-services sector
Participants in the first E2 Forum Frankfurt have taken a decisive step forward to the future of vertical and horizontal conveyance in buildings and urban areas: around 420 experts from the elevator and escalator industry, as well as planners, installation specialists and operators of modern buildings and infrastructures, gave top marks to the two-day conference and accompanying exhibition.
New exhibitor record and more visitors at the 25th Automechanika Frankfurt
Automechanika Frankfurt concluded on 15 September following five trade fair days with a record number of exhibitors, more visitors than in 2016 and a new record for the amount of exhibition space. The event drew 136,000 trade visitors from 181 countries – another record . Of these, approx. 10,000 were at the event for the first time. 82 percent of exhibitors said they had achieved their goals for the event (2016: 78). The megatrends at the fair were digitisation, clean vehicles and classic cars.
Messe Frankfurt announces participation in inaugural China International Import Expo
Messe Frankfurt Group, the world’s largest trade fair, congress and event organiser with its own exhibition grounds, will participate as an exhibitor itself in the inaugural China International Import Expo (CIIE) to be held in Shanghai this 5 to 10 November. The fair is considered a major diplomatic event for China, supported by the highest levels of the Chinese government, and will feature around 2,800 exhibitors from more than 130 countries and regions.

The rich variety of goods for the North put the 13,500 trade visitors in a buying mood and encouraged them to place orders while making new contacts. The trade fair’s new date – at the end of the northern German summer holiday season – also contributed to the buoyant mood in the exhibition halls.
