The Group’s strategic orientation is determined by its sustainable business practices. The Sustainability Board drives forward the transformation to a sustainable trade fair sector with input from different disciplines. Both long-term goals and short- and medium-term milestones are set out in a sustainability target architecture. Messe Frankfurt introduced the environmental management system EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) in 2023. The EMAS validation also meets the requirements of environmental management norm ISO 14001. In addition, the company calculates its greenhouse gas emissions as a basis for managing them and for setting climate targets. Messe Frankfurt gears its sustainable business practices towards the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The company is also committed to the Charter of Diversity and the fairpflichtet sustainability code. Messe Frankfurt supports the sustainability initiatives of industry associations AUMA and UFI and of the Joint Meetings Industry Council (JMIC) in their efforts to gradually reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It has also signed the Net Zero Carbon Events Pledge.
