As Wolfgang Marzin, President and Chief Executive Officer of Messe Frankfurt, emphasises: “We are delighted at having been nominated for the German Sustainability Award 2023 and see this as confirmation that, with our clearly defined goals, areas of activity and measures, we are well on the way towards our goal of sustainability.”
In July, Messe Frankfurt already received the AEO Excellence Award 2023 in the Best Sustainability Initiative category from the Association of Event Organisers (AEO) in the UK in recognition of its outstanding efforts in the event sector. By the end of 2023, it wants to be the first company in the German trade fair sector to have been awarded a certificate by environmental management system Eco Management & Audit Scheme (EMAS). In 2022, Messe Frankfurt participated in an ESG rating (Environmental, Social and Governance) for the first time and was awarded a bronze medal.
Climate protection and sustainable event business
As one of the world’s leading organisers of trade fairs, congresses and events with their own exhibition grounds, the Group is a driving force for climate protection and a sustainable event business. It has oriented itself towards German and international standards for years as well as underlining its sustainable business practices with a series of voluntary commitments, such as the United Nations Global Compact, the Charter of Diversity and the fairpflichtet sustainability code. As well as supporting the sustainability initiatives of sector associations AUMA and UFI, Messe Frankfurt has signed the Net Zero Carbon Events Pledge.
Messe Frankfurt’s increased sustainable activities are also shown in detail on its new web pages at Sustainability (messefrankfurt.com). With a new structure and updated content, the new web pages give an overview of the Group’s sustainability strategy and the extensive measures that it is taking.
16th edition of the German Sustainability Award
This year sees the German Sustainability Award being presented by the DNP Foundation for the 16th time. The award honours outstanding efforts to bring about the transformation to a sustainable future and takes into account above all ecological and social aspects. It is seen as Europe’s greatest award for ecological and social commitment. This year, companies from 100 sectors have been nominated because of their exemplary and effective contributions to sustainable transformation in the long term. Also nominated with Messe Frankfurt are Hamburg Messe und Congress, NürnbergMesse and Messe Stuttgart in the "Leisure and Events" category for the "Event and Trade Fair Industry" sector. The prizes are awarded together with the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK), the Federal Ministry for the Environment and other partners. The award presentation will take place in Düsseldorf on 23 November 2023.
