E2 Forum Frankfurt 2022: Successful continuation of the expert dialogue

22 Sep 2022

The dialogue on the elevator and escalator industry with experts from the fields of building management and planning, plant operation, engineering and building services technology has gained further momentum at the E2 Forum Frankfurt. The innovation forum programme of conference, industry exhibition and networking was very well received by the experts in vertical-horizontal building mobility. 350 attendees and 40 exhibiting companies came to the second E2 Forum in Frankfurt am Main.

Elevators and escalators being integrated into building services and meeting the requirements of digitalisation, sustainability and cybersecurity: with this goal in mind, suppliers, operators and planners of modern passenger conveyance in buildings of the future discussed and made new business contacts in Germany's high-rise metropolis Frankfurt.

The E2 Forum was officially opened by Roberto Zappa, President of the European Lift Association (ELA), and Martin Schmitt, Chairman of the VDMA Elevator and Escalator Association of Germany. In her keynote speech, renowned architect Nayla Mecattaf called for sustainable high-rise design to combat soil sealing while promoting social interaction and people's well-being in the building. She pointed out the orientation of the building core close to the façade with staircases and lift shafts, the planning with more natural light and the integration of green outdoor areas up to the roof of the building.

Efficient, data-secure and digitally controlled elevator and escalator systems for sustainable operation in modern buildings were the dominant topics in the further course of the conference as well as in the discussions at the exhibitors' stands. Special attention was paid to solutions for the modernisation of existing systems, cyber-secure IoT applications for operation, predictive maintenance and improved performance. Around 50 experts shared their knowledge with attendees in presentations and panel discussions, including representatives of the French transport operator RATP (Metro Paris), Europe's largest real estate group Vonovia, pioneers of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in Germany and the major E2 manufacturers in the industry.

The continuation of the expert dialogue between suppliers and operators of modern lift and escalator systems in 2022 was a success: 350 attendees used the past two days to exchange views on the future topics of innovation, digitalisation and sustainability. The content of the two-day conference and the contacts at the accompanying industrial exhibition convinced attendees and exhibitors alike. "As the world's largest trade fair operator with its own grounds, we feel like a member of this industry. We are aware of the urgent challenges in the area of tensions between climate neutrality, digitalisation and securing skilled labour as well as the supply chains for components, that the entire industry and its customers and partners are facing", said Uwe Behm, Member of the Executive Board of Messe Frankfurt. "We are thus particularly pleased that the dialogue on the future at the second E2 Forum was perceived so intensively and successfully."

Martin Schmitt, Chairman of the VDMA Elevator and Escalator Association, spoke on behalf of the nearly 90 member companies of the association at the end of the event: "The E2 Forum 2022 has proven itself as successful a platform for dialogue between our industry and our partners in building planning and management: We have taken fresh ideas with us from Frankfurt to initiate for the next E2 Forum in two years' time.”

With 40 exhibiting companies, the attendance was higher than at the premiere of the E2 Forum four years ago. The number of 350 attendees was slightly lower than in 2018 (2018: 420 attendees). They come mainly from the industry, facility management, the real estate industry, large transport operators and public sector plant operations.

Exhibitors at the technology and networking platform for cross-industry dialogue include numerous key players as well as medium-sized companies and innovative start-ups, such as ALGI, Bosch Service Solutions, Brugg Lifting, Bucher Hydraulics, Hydroware, Cedes, D+H Mechatronic, Danfoss Drives, Global1Partners, Kollmorgen Steuerungstechnik, Meiller Aufzugtüren, Nayar Systems, NetCom Sicherheitstechnik, New Lift, OSMA, Otis, Permoser & Partner, Schindler, Schmitt + Sohn, Sensotek, Telegärtner Elektronik, UVIS Innovative Solutions and Wittur.

E2 Forum: Place and time for dialogue between industry and building management

Pure networking: the innovation forum for elevator and escalator technology combines conference participation, cross-sector networking and an innovative range of products and services from renowned manufacturers as well as successful start-ups. The event is organised by Messe Frankfurt in cooperation with the VDMA Elevator and Escalator Association, which is also responsible for the conference programme. The VDMA Elevator and Escalator Association represents a good 90 percent of the German lift and escalator market.

The vertical-horizontal mobility of people and goods in urban infrastructures requires intelligent and connected building systems technology. Messe Frankfurt brings together all relevant players who are looking for or offering market-ready solutions to these challenges and has, thus, created a network of experts that is unrivalled anywhere in the world: Building Technologies. In this sector, Messe Frankfurt organises a total of 24 trade fairs on three continents, including the two leading trade fair brands in the sector worldwide: Light + Building and ISH. Accordingly, the trade fair organiser is expanding its marketing platforms and conferences around the globe. Today, Messe Frankfurt is represented with six events for elevators and escalators in America, Asia and Europe: With the International Elevator and Escalator (IEE) Expo in the metropolis of Mumbai, Messe Frankfurt provides the platform for the growing Indian market. The E2 Forums in Buenos Aires (Argentina), Frankfurt am Main (Germany), Milan (Italy) India's capital New Delhi and Shanghai (China) round off the portfolio as innovation forums for cross-sector dialogue between the industry and operators in the real estate sector, planning and building technologies.

The next E2 Forum Frankfurt, innovation forum for elevator and escalator technology, will take place in Frankfurt am 2024.
