With 970 exhibitors (winter 2017: 969 ) from Germany and Europe and more than 20,000 visitors (January 2017: 19,942), Nordstil has consolidated its position as the most important order event in the north of Germany. In line with the regional orientation of Nordstil, a large number of Danish, Dutch and Swedish companies presented their latest products and innovations alongside 811 German companies. Together with the high exhibitor standard, the multi-faceted range of products for the home and garden once again ensured a high level of satisfaction among visitors.
“Nordstil has long been a reliable player for both exhibitors and the trade in the North German fair and exhibition landscape. It is the most important order venue for the region and supplies the retail trade from the Rhine to the Baltic and from Öresund to the Leine with new impulses and innovations for their individual assortment compilation. The result is a high degree of exhibitor satisfaction, a high visitor standard and plentiful orders”, explains Nordstil Director Binu Thomas. “In January, liquidity tends to be high and stocks low. Thus, order fairs such as Nordstil represent an ideal opportunity for the trade to place last-minute orders for the spring and the main orders for the rest of the year”, says Thomas Grothkopp of the German Home and Office Trade Association (Handelsverband Wohnen und Büro). Continuing, he adds, “Exhibitors and trade visitors both profit from this situation, which is reflected by the numerous and attractively decorated exhibition stands.”
There was complete agreement among exhibitors that the number and standard of visitors at this year’s winter edition of Nordstil were flawless. They used the fair to cultivate their regular customers and to make new contacts.

Naturalness is booming – Nordstil trends for the spring and summer, 2018
Green continues to trend, as do wood, stone, concrete and bamboo. Attractive fabrics, such as velvet and chenille, are conquering the ‘hygge’ home with delicate colours, such as white, light blue and baby pink, and finding their place at the dining table.
Maritime shades of blue ensure a beach and seaside feeling in the home. Furniture made of solid wood and basketry continues to be popular whereby cotton, linen and jute underscore the beach-house look.
To the jungle: plants in the urban jungle not only grow in flower pots but also on ceramic, glass and fabrics. Flamingos continue to be trendy. As ornaments or printed motifs of cushions, the pink birds are eyecatchers against the green background of the urban jungle. Floral prints – reinterpreted – sweeten the summer. Gaining ground are alpacas and their relatives, the lamas, from the South American Andes. These enchanting animals are the new decoration stars for the trendy home.
For those who prefer their decorations to be less cuddly, geometric shapes and metals, such as copper and brass, continue to be ‘in’, as do technical details. Sharp edges, however, are set to take a break in the coming season with circular shapes now trending.
Fresh ideas for better business
Nordstil – Regional Order Days Hamburg – was not only an important order venue for the north. Its extensive complementary programme of events – from expert lectures to fascinating products for top target groups – offered supplementary value added that attracted both exhibitors and visitors. For example, numerous visitors took advantage of the lectures and presentation on content marketing, sales strategies and shop design, and thus benefited from ideas showing how even smaller businesses can ensure a place for themselves in the market. Striking ideas for decorating the point-of-sale were also offered by 12 brand manufacturers at the Village. Visitors to Nordstil Creative had the chance to look at things from the customer’s perspective. There, exhibitors took an in-depth look at their new products and thus gave trade visitors the chance to sell them more effectively to their customers. Fresh impulses were also generated by the Northern Lights area with innovative products by young designers as well as the ‘Heroes with bottles’ who provided visitors with an opportunity to taste and buy select wines and spirits distinguished by modern packaging. The coming Nordstil will be held in the summer from 11 to 13 August 2018 and be followed by the next winter edition from 12 to 14 January 2019. The venue remains the exhibition centre of Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH.
