How do I obtain a film permit? What should be taken into account when applying for a permit? Under what conditions can filming take place and what fees can be expected? The aim of this brief information is to answer a few key questions in advance and to make filming and photo shoots on the Frankfurt exhibition grounds easier for all concerned.

We recommend the following approach
A telephone call before the project begins can clarify questions and speed up the remaining procedure. For the photo and film permit itself, we require a written application with an invoice address, a rough storyline, including the time schedule and the intended shooting/filming locations. You can provide this information either by telephone or using the form on this page.

Contracts
A filming permit must be issued for any filming work. In all cases, a liability insurance policy with coverage of at least €50,000 is required.

Time limits
Generally speaking, permits are valid for a period of ten working days. This period can be extended in the case of historical and very elaborate filming, for which specialist advice may be required. Trade fair times (incl. set-up and dismantling) may not be affected.


Costs for filming permits
Fees depend on each individual project and are calculated based on costs incurred and resources used. The calculation of costs takes into account expenditure for Messe Frankfurt facilities and human resources etc.
Messe Frankfurt will charge a cancellation fee in the event that filming/shooting is cancelled by the producers. An advance payment is to be made in the case of very high costs.
