07.05.2013 Automechanika – the world's leading trade fair for the automobile sector and top export hit

International network of 12 events in 11 countries

With 4,597 companies from 74 countries, Automechanika Frankfurt in September 2012 set a new exhibitor record. 147,715 visitors from 176 countries (2010: 153,837, FKM certified) made their way to Frankfurt for the world’s leading trade fair for the automobile sector. As at previous editions, Automechanika 2012 occupied the Frankfurt Fair and Exhibition Centre in its entirety (305,000 sqm). The fair set new accents with a visitor guide on the subject of Truck Competence, two special shows on e-mobility and a wide range of basic and advanced training opportunities. The results of the exhibitor poll indicate that visitor quality at the fair rose again in comparison to 2010. 70 percent of exhibitors said they were satisfied to extraordinarily satisfied with visitor quality at the fair (2010: 64 percent). German exhibitors in particular were able to make more new contacts than at the previous event (up from 62 to 67 percent). To be shortened by one day, the next Automechanika Frankfurt will be held from 16 to 20 September 2014.

At present, Messe Frankfurt holds eleven Automechanika fairs outside Germany. They are used by numerous companies to familiarise themselves with new markets, to make personal contacts and to expand their sales networks.

The latest addition to the Automechanika brand, ACMA Automechanika New Delhi, proved to be a huge success for its debut show. The sold-out event, held from 7 – 10 February 2013 at Halls 8 – 11 of Pragati Maidan in the nation’s capital, featured 261 exhibiting companies (149 domestic, 112 international) and attracted 8,157 business visitors. Detlef Braun, Member of the Executive Board of Messe Frankfurt GmbH: “With ACMA, we have found the ideal partner to expand our fair and exhibition business in India. Messe Frankfurt’s expertise in organising international automobile fairs combined with ACMAs contacts to the Indian supplier industry represents an outstanding foundation for ACMA Automechanika New Delhi. I firmly believe that the fair will carve out a place for itself as the perfect business platform for the sector." ACMA represents over 600 companies that account for the bulk of automobile component production in India. In the domestic market, they supply automobile manufacturers, direct suppliers, public transport authorities, defence facilities, railways and the aftermarket. The next edition of the New Delhi show will take place in February 2015.

The world’s second biggest Automechanika fair is Automechanika Shanghai, which is jointly organised by Messe Frankfurt Shanghai Co Ltd and the China National Automotive Industry International Corporation (CNAICO). 4,109 exhibitors from 37 countries and regions presented their products and services at the fair from 11 to 14 December 2012. This represents a 33 percent increase in the number of international exhibitors. The number of Chinese exhibitors rose by 13.5 percent. The event also expanded in terms of exhibition space with the three main sections – parts & components, repairs & maintenance and accessories & tuning – covering 180,000 m² in 17 exhibition halls. This year, the fair will be held from 10 to 13 December.

Automechanika Dubai celebrated its tenth anniversary from 22 to 24 May 2012 with two new records: a 20-percent increase in the space occupied and a total of 1,300 companies from 55 countries. For many years, Dubai, the most important com­mercial centre for automobile parts and accessories, has attract­ed numerous trade visitors from the Middle East, Africa, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The next Automechanika Dubai is scheduled to take place from 11 to 13 June 2013.

Automechanika St. Petersburg consolidated its position in the Automechanika calendar of events and, with ExpoForum, has gained a new, strong partner for the future. Held at the Lenexpo Fair and Exhibition Centre from 12 to 14 April 2012, the 19th Automechanika St. Petersburg attracted 3,000 trade visitors, the majority of them from Northwest Russia and the Baltic States. The next and eagerly awaited edition of the fair will be held in April 2014 in the new ExpoForum International Exhibition & Convention Centre.

In Turkey, automotive parts make up the leading export sector and, in line with this, Automechanika Istanbul is a long-running success. Since the première in 2001, this event, a joint venture of Messe Frankfurt and Hannover Messe International, has developed into Turkey’s biggest and most international trade fair. The last event in 2013 was attended by more exhibitors and visitors than ever before  with 1,245 exhibitors (709 from Turkey und 536 from 35 countries) and around 43,000 visitors (plus 21 percent in comparison to the show in 2011). The next Automechanika Istanbul will be held from 10 to 13 April 2014.

New since 2011 in the Automechanika portfolio is Motortec Automechanika Madrid, which is organised by IFEMA (Institución Ferial de Madrid), a powerful partner of Messe Frankfurt. The second Automechanika on the Iberian Peninsula took place at the Parque Ferial Juan Carlos I in Madrid from 13 March to 16 March 2013 closed with three percent more visitors (41,149), ten percent more exhibitors (487) and five percent more exhibition space (24,527 sqm). The next Motortec Automechanika Madrid will be held in March 2015.

The 2nd Automechanika Johannesburg from 9 to 12 March 2011 closed its doors after wel­coming a large number of international guests. 547 exhibitors from 25 countries presented their products – 33 percent more than at the premiere in 2009. Among the nations exhibiting were China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan and Turkey. The visitor side was also distinguished by significant growth of 10 percent (around 9,500). The trade visitors, who included dealers, garage owners, forwarding agents and investors, came from 60 countries, primarily the ‘sub-Saharan countries’, i.e., countries to the south of the Sahara. The next Automechanika Johannesburg will be held from 8 to 11 May 2013. 616 exhibitors are expected, which is plus 12 percent compared to the show in 2011.

Automechanika Kuala Lumpur
is the gateway to the ASEAN region. Held from 7 to 9 March 2013 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, the 8th edition attracted 190 exhibitors from 18 countries and around 4,500 with 15 percent coming from overseas.  Among the 60 visiting countries and regions, the top ten visiting countries (excluding Malaysia) were Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Pakistan, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore and Thailand. The next event will take place March 2015.

Messe Frankfurt holds two Automechanika fairs on the American continent, Automechanika Buenos Aires and PAACE Automechanika Mexico City. With 474 exhibitors from 19 countries and around 20,600 trade visitors, PAACE Automechanika Mexico City is one of the leading fairs for the automotive aftermarket in Latin America. Mexico is one of the world's most dynamic automobile markets and the Mexican government offers a favourable business climate for foreign investors. The next PAACE Automechanika will be held from 10 to 12 July 2013.

Automechanika Buenos Aires has developed into the leading event in the Mercosur region. Covering an area of 40,000 sqm (gross), it is the third-biggest event in the Automechanika family and is held in La Rural Exhibition Centre. The fair was launched in 2000 and has proved to be a reliable partner for the market even in times of economic difficulty. In November 2012, 430 exhibitors (180 from outside Argentina) presented a large range of products and services, which attracted around 32,000 visitors. Although most of the visitors came from Argentina, the ten percent from outside the country come from no less than 39 nations. The figures for the next Automechanika Buenos Aires from 12 to 15 November 2014 will certainly be the subject of considerable interest.

In Moscow, Messe Frankfurt cooperates with ITE. In even years, the event is called ‘MIMS powered by Automechanika Moscow’ and, in odd years, ‘Automechanika Moscow powered by MIMS’.

MIMS powered by Automechanika Moscow was held in 2012 for the first time at the Expocentre Moscow and, with over 1,000 exhibitors from 34 countries, occupied 7 exhibition halls. The presentations by numerous leading international manufacturers were given an enthusiastic reception by visitors. The next Automechanika Moscow powered by MIMS will be held from 27 to 30 August 2013.

Summarising the global activities of the Automechanika brand, Detlef Braun, Member of the Executive Board of Messe Frankfurt, says: "We will continue observing and analysing the world's markets in the future to give international manufacturers and buyers the chance to make contact with national companies and business partners. In particular, we aim to offer small to medium-sized companies a launching pad into the emerging markets."
