Opus – German Stage Award 2012: Bertil Mark to receive the Opus for lighting the ‘Letzte leise Reise’ tour of ‘Sportfreunde Stiller’ indie-rock band

Presentation during Prolight + Sound in Frankfurt am Main on 21 March 2012

Bertil Mark has been chosen as the winner of this year’s Opus – German Stage Award – in the Lighting Design category for his work on the ‘Letzte leise Reise’ tour of ‘Sportfreunde Stiller’ indie-rock band. The Opus for outstanding stage productions will be presented at the Prolight + Sound trade fair in Frankfurt am Main from 21 to 24 March 2012. The awards ceremony will take place during the International Fair of Technologies and Services for Events and Entertainment in Hall 6.0 of Frankfurt Fair and Exhibition Centre at 18.30 hrs on 21 March 2012.

Nowadays, stage productions involve more than just the use of a traditional theatre stage. And, through the choice of award winners and their projects, Opus – German Stage Award – reflects the wide variety of different stage productions. No matter whether in the theatre, on festival stages, at rock concerts, television shows or major festivals, a variety of disciplines must mesh to create a perfect event. The right sound, perfect lighting and optimum media technology is essential if an event is to be a complete success. Messe Frankfurt has been honouring theatre, opera, classical, rock and pop productions with Opus – German Stage Award – since 2002.

Shown in the right light

This year’s Opus – German Stage Award – goes to Bertil Mark in the Lighting Design category. He has been chosen for his work on the ‘Letzte leise Reise’ tour of the ‘Sportfreunde Stiller’ indie-rock band. The jury was particularly impressed by lighting design for the band’s tour with its refreshing lighting, video and stage design. Bertil Mark is an all-rounder in the music sector and works with many bands as a musician, producer and composer. Another field of activity is lighting and show design in the live sector.

A jury of experts from the industry, trade associations and Messe Frankfurt, as well as journalists from the leading trade publications, awards Opus for new, outstanding and creative ideas for the use of technology. The honorary award is sponsored by the Professional Lighting & Sound Association of Germany (Verband für Licht-, Ton- und Veranstaltungstechnik - VPLT), the European Association of Event Centers (Europäischer Verband der Veranstaltungs-Centren - EVVC) and Messe Frankfurt.
