'Solutions' meets the challenges of kitchen and household, with both form and function

“Design as an end in itself? – No thank you! The requirements for Solutions put functionality and innovation above form. So, in theory there could be amazingly inventive products that are ugly. But, to be honest, more often than not most selected products are good examples of form follows function." This is how Sebastian Bergne describes the intention behind 'Solutions'. The industrial designer from London is making the selection of products for Ambiente. What particularly attracts his attention is design that solves everyday problems by simple means. Hence, too, the name of the exhibition area.

Exhibitors were able to apply for their products to be included in the 'Solutions' for the competition until the beginning of December. Sebastian Bergne then selected 27 winning products from all those that were submitted. He has been assisted in making the selection by Kate Birch, Editor of Tableware International, and Dieter Junghans, Managing Director of Pro-Idee. All the selected products will be displayed at Ambiente in the Foyer in Hall 4.0. The concept for it also originates from Bergne. Practical design and unpretentiousness of style are what make products stand out. One part of the exhibition, moreover, consists of short video sequences which demonstrate the various kitchen and household aids in action.

'Sauce Roller' sauce dispenser – Lékué

Among the Ambiente 'Solutions' for 2017, is, for example the 'Sauce Roller' by Lékué. It is made in BPA-free plastic and has a shape similar to that of a ladle. On its underside there is, however, a moveable ball, which fits into an opening. That allows sauces to be spread evenly. This innovative piece of kitchen equipment may well be of particular relevance to lovers of pizza.

Helix Range – Joseph Joseph

This powerful trio of juicing and pulping tools also belongs to the 'Solutions' of the coming year. With two threaded components, one inside the other, the user can easily build up a high degree of manual pressure. And this is also where the name is taken from – the Helix Range from Joseph Joseph.

SpreadThat! Deluxe – That Inventions

How would it be, if one's own body heat could help to solve the annoying problem of butter that is much too hard because it has been chilled? 'Spreadthat! Deluxe' does exactly that. The copper core of the butter-knife conducts heat from the hand holding it into the blade – thus ensuring portions that are 'soft as butter'.

On the heels of a solution

The open design of the special exhibition invites visitors to find out more about the 'Solutions'. On Saturday 11 February 2017 Sebastian Bergne will conduct a guided tour of the special display.
